ABOUT - ME

I have been involved in sport for many years, firstly, as a recreational athlete across a range of sports - football, cycling, running and sprint to Ironman distance triathlons. For the past 20 years, I have worked as a Sports Lecturer and Fitness & Conditioning Coach with a keen interest in endurance based activity. Within that time, I have been very fortunate to coach people across a range of ages and abilities with great personal success stories.

I believe that everyone has enormous potential to achieve their own personal successes. In the right environment and with the shared beliefs that you have with your coach the potential is there to bring about the best in you.

What is your reason for training? Why do you partake in sport? How can you improve your performance?

Realising your true potential takes time, determination, courage and an open mind to the views and beliefs that you share with your coach. There are no short cuts to your goals but trying to go it alone undoubtedly doesn’t make it easier. That’s where a coach comes in. Not every coach aligns to needs of every athlete, so it’s important to take the time to adopt a coach who shares the same beliefs as yourself.

Fundamental to coaching is that it always has an athlete-centered approach. This means that it focuses on people's needs rather than simply applying a generic one size fits all training program. Open and honest dialogue is integral to the progression of individuals when striving for success. Through working within the sport and the education sector, I have realised that coaching, education and mentoring is more than just writing a generic script, it’s about understanding the individuals needs and eliciting an environment that brings about the best version of those individuals. Coaching can be about simple resolutions, not just creating complex ideas for the sake of it.

Being coached isn’t simply about a dictatorship. Fruitful Coaching is formed by good working relationships, two-way dialogue based on honesty, trust and valued input from both coach and athlete. Personalised training plans aligned to your specific targets through a continued dialogue, it's not as simple as a straight line to success, as much as that would be good.
