What is strength and conditioning?

 

Strength and Conditioning is not just about lifting weights – it involves the entire development of the individual and what is needed to improve their physical performance. This includes speed, agility, plyometrics, endurance and core stability with strength training being a small piece of the training landscape.

How can it benefit you as a sports performer?

  • Performance increases - increased muscular strength and muscular endurance.​

  • Muscle fibres - increased fibre size.

  • Metabolic energy stores - increases in stored glycogen (stored sugars).

  • Connective tissue - potential increases in tendon/ligament strength & bone density. 

  • Body composition - decreases in % body-fat & increases in fat free mass (muscle mass).
